Legacy Circle
An End of Year Giving Option
Congress re-authorized legislation that allows you to make charitable gifts from your IRA accounts for the 2011 tax year without incurring federal income tax on the withdrawl. The IRA Rollover provides you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.
To qualify, you must be age 70 1/2 or older at the time of gift. Transfer must be made directly from a traditional IRA account by your plan provider to United Way of Greater Kansas City.
If you are considering an IRA Rollover please contact your plan provider. For your convenience we have drafted a sample letter of instruction that you can send to your plan provider, click here to view sample letter.
What will your legacy be?
The Legacy Society of United Way currently has 60 members who are donors and have indicated that they have included United Way in their will or estate plans. Their commitment to our community extends far beyond the needs of this year, this decade or this generation. Their legacy through a planned gift to the United Way’s endowment will be one that impacts our community in perpetuity. That gift can take many forms from gifts of cash or life insurance to life income arrangements and many others. You can plan now to make a contribution that will continue to help people in need past your lifetime. Making and implementing a plan is the best way to ensure that your goals are not left to chance.
