Gifts in Kind

The Gifts in Kind Program furthers the mission of local agencies through donated merchandise, which is distributed to agencies helping underserved individuals, children and families. Items distributed include personal care items, clothing, event tickets, computer software, office supplies and furniture. Donations come from local companies and individuals as well as corporations throughout the country and are shipped to charities from regional distribution centers. Since 2000, more than $48 million worth of products have been distributed to help reduce expenses and further the mission of more than 250 area organizations.

The Corporate Volunteer Council provides a membership forum for area companies committed to employee volunteerism and corporate community involvement.

RSVP of Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties

A part of Senior Corps, a renewable federal grant program, RSVP matches the experience, interests and skills of individuals over 55 with volunteer opportunities, including: RSVP Clowns and S.W.A.T. (Seniors with Available Time), family, group and intergenerational projects. RSVP volunteers choose the time, place and location, receive supplemental insurance while on duty, and know the significant impact they achieve in our communities. United Way of Greater Kansas City Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center connects individuals and groups to area community organizations needing volunteer assistance; provides information, recruitment assistance and volunteer referral to established or developing nonprofit organizations; offers volunteer management training, volunteer program development and consultation and coordinates the annual Day of Caring. Emergency Food and Shelter Program

United Way administers the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, a federal grant for programs in Jackson, Clay, Platte and Cass counties in Missouri and Wyandotte and Johnson counties in Kansas. The program provides grants to agencies that provide emergency or crisis shelter, rent, utility and food assistance to individuals and families facing poverty or homelessness. In 2009, more than one million dollars was allocated to area emergency assistance agencies
